Kitchen fire leaves 1 person, dog hurt

A single-alarm fire in Daly City on Thursday was confined to a home's kitchen but left one person and one canine injured, according to the North County Fire Authority.

Just after 5 p.m., fire officials were dispatched to 355 Morton Drive and found smoke coming out of the south side of the second floor in the two-story single-family home, the fire authority said.

The blaze was controlled within 10 minutes and was completely extinguished in about an hour and a half.

A female resident was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. An unconscious German shepherd was found in the home but was revived by firefighters before being taken to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for further treatment.

Although the flames only affected the kitchen, heavy smoke damaged the second floor of the residence.

One resident was displaced by the fire, and investigators worked to determine the cause, officials said.
