Local players named all-state in softball
Outfielder Kelly Cunningham, a recent graduate of Carlmont High School in Belmont, has been named second-team all-state by CalHiSports.com in that group's "all sizes" category. CalHiSports, which has determined all-state teams for more than 20 years, recognizes all-state players in multiple categories, including large schools, medium schools and small schools, as well as all-state team for underclassmen.Half Moon Bay junior Leah Garcia was named to the all-state medium schools team as a multipurpose player. Castilleja infielder Jane Alexander and pitcher Samantha Albanese made the all-state small schools team, as did infielder Jessica Belluomini, a recent grad of Mercy-Burlingame. Alexander is a recent grad of the Palo Alto school where Albanese will be a junior in the fall. Albanese was named all-state as a multi-purpose player.
Notre Dame-Belmont teammates Kelly McDonald and Ali Palermo were voted onto the all-state underclass squad. McDonald, an infielder, made the first team. Palermo was named to the second team as a catcher. Both will be seniors in the fall.
